It looks like Dancing with the Stars bears out its reputation as a makeover vehicle for celebrities who are seeking various ways to rejuvenate and reinstate themselves in the limelight. The newest addition to the “has been” celebrities that have been graced with the program’s healing powers is none other than former teen heartthrob Joey Lawrence. According to TV Guide, Lawrence got an acting gig on a forthcoming episode of CSI: NY.

The upcoming episode, which is entitled Past Imperfect, will showcase Lawrence as a killer named Clay Dobson. Filming this episode is especially memorable for Lawrence since he has never done anything like it before in terms of portraying the character and getting involved in a different kind of fight scene. He told TV Guide, “They had like 15 cameras up there, and we had to shoot all the fight sequences in one day. It was really incredible.

It took us like three hours to set up one shot that lasted, like, 10 seconds. But it was a good time, and it’s going to set up a good cliffhanger for the end of the season. It’s good for Gary, too, because Mac ends up in some hot water.” Past Imperfect is scheduled to air on April 25, 2007 at 10 pm on CBS.

Meanwhile, the actor credits a lot of his positive exposure on his inclusion on Dancing with the Stars season three. In fact, if asked to appear again on the show, he would most likely accept the invitation.

Lawrence, a 30-year old native of Abington, Pennsylvania, was best known for his inclusion on the television show Blossom. His TV credits included Gimme a Break!, American Dreams, Brotherly Love, Run of the House, Who’s the Boss, and Adventures in Babysitting. He also graced the movie world with films like Do You Wanna Know A Secret, Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber and Tequila Body Shots among others. In the wake of his success as a teenage heartthrob, he recorded and released his debut album entitled Joey Lawrence, in 1993. He joined the popular celebrity dance competition Dancing with the Stars in 2006 and ranked third place with professional dance partner Edyta Sliwinska.

Nissan Csi as Divulged by a Senior Vp

RyanThomas asked:

What is the most powerful acronym in the automotive realm? It is the CSI and it is short for Customer Satisfaction Index. In fact, the numbers shown in the index could bring tears of exaltation or devastation.

For the Nissan Motor Co., the numbers are being safeguarded by Doug Betts, Nissan’s senior vice president of Total Customer Satisfaction. Betts is an engineer by education and training who joined Nissan almost three years ago after ten years with Toyota. Prior to that, he has served eight years with Michelin when Carlos Ghosn ran the American operation.

Betts’ marketing is focused on consumer oriented methods around the concept of total customer satisfaction. “As our product quality has significantly improved, our dealers have told me their warranty work has gone down as much as 50% to 60% in the last year. So, now it’s very important the dealer be very efficient, professional and reliable doing maintenance work,” Betts explained. “If we don’t help fill-up our dealers service bays with maintenance work to replace warranty work, it’s going to put a lot of pressure on them for profitability.”

Asked about the company’s improved CSI concept, Betts said: “The idea originated in Japan. The basic idea is that the service department could run more efficiently if there was input from the manufacturing side of the business. Take a plant with two lines; cars are coming off the line every 26 seconds. When something goes wrong, it’s suddenly wrong on every car – plant operations are standardized. Before there’s time to make the problem go away, another car is coming off the line. So, the factory must be good and efficient at repairing cars under these difficult conditions.”

He added, “At the end of a line there’s not a huge repair area to put the cars in and fix the vehicles and move on. That’s why the factory service people can get so good at quick repairs because they are exposed to the way the plant works and functions. We are always looking for every tenth-of-a second in improved efficiency. There is a need to eliminate any time that is being wasted. Our factory repair teams are accustomed and exposed to this way of thinking.”

According to Betts, the plan was started a year ago with a pilot activity that used people from the plants in Japan to go to dealers to study, analyze and work with them on service operations in order to find ways to make the operations more efficient. The said plan does not only concern services on the Nissan mud flap and other parts. It intends to delve deeper to target holistic approach. He said, “In the pilot dealers, we found huge gains in dealer efficiencies. This has resulted in the dealers being able to schedule more work in the same day and make more money.”

The result is faster service and limited delays. “For example, if a customer called to make an appointment and instead of being told, ‘I can get you in four days from now,” he was told “we can get to you today or tomorrow.’ That is an improvement,” Betts noted. “One of the things we’ve been able to implement is a system called, Assist, for the things that are or can be electronically diagnosed with computers. A print-out tells the tech what is wrong with the vehicle and what parts and tools are needed to fix it.”

“Efficiency, at the end of the day, always goes to the consumer. Dealership owners expect a specific return on their investment. It may take time, but it always does. And this can generate even more business and profits,” Betts concluded.

What To Do To Quell The Overwhelm

November 7th, 2008

Brad Wozny Wozny asked:

What I’ve seen that overwhelms an investor most about real estate is handling everything involved when property changes hands. For starters, there’s a mountain of paperwork that documents everything from where exactly the property sits to the chain of ownership from previous owner to current owner. There is a vast amount of activity that goes into closing a deal, but you shouldn’t be overwhelmed about any of it.

At this stage of the game, you should have figured out who’s who in the world around you. Who is going to be able to help you do your job much better? Who is willing to work with you so that everyone benefits? The answers to those questions will make up your power team.

Watching CSI, you see plenty of people running around the CSI building. A coroner is looking over the deceased body to find any clues pertaining to the cause of death. A ballistics expert is checking bullets and residue to determine what kind of gun was used. A scientist is studying fibers underneath a microscope to determine what they have to do with the crime. And the lieutenant is in charge of all of them, directing their actions and staying on top of all the findings.

The lieutenant will take the credit for solving the crime. The lieutenant is the one who always gets the pat on the back for a job well done. But, the lieutenant couldn’t have possibly done it all. To someone just entering forensics, all of the sciences must seem overwhelming at first because that’s what it takes to solve a crime. What they don’t know is they are going to have plenty of help, plenty of hands, and the team is going to solve the crime together.

The Power Team

That’s how your power team is going to work. But, now you’re probably thinking that you are going to need employees. That’s not what I mean by a power team.

At the beginning of my 7 Figure Profits™ system (coming out soon) you’ll find my Strategic Investment Manifesto™. In the manifesto, I listed the 21 reasons I wanted to start my own business. I wanted to be my own boss for one thing. I wanted to be able to set my own schedules for another. If I wanted to sleep in, I could. If I wanted to take a day off, I could. That’s not really the kind of business ethics to have when you have employees.

No, a power team consists of all of the people you are going to need to build relationships with in order for you to get things done faster, better and smoother. They are running their own businesses. They have their own clients. But, they also work well with you.

Business Work Flow

Doing great business isn’t all about doing the work yourself. It’s about being able to act as a lieutenant for a CSI crime solving team. You direct. You delegate. You get things done and you deposit the nice paycheck.

For instance, what if you found a great property that you decided you could flip rather easily? But, you noted that you were going to need to get some work done on it first. Your normal work flow just doubled because of everything else involved now.

You call the realtor. Not just any realtor, you call the one you work with, the one who makes up your power team. Your realtor will check the comparables and make sure that there is actually a viable deal.

When you get the go ahead, you call the attorney to draw up the contract. Of course, you can do the contract yourself. Yes, you can save money on it. But, not much time. This is how you are going to be able to relax in your backyard with acup of tea rather than constantly work, work, work on things that you could just delegate.

Include your attorney. One more thing, real estate deals amass enough money for you to be able to delegate some responsibility out to people who are going to make sure the job is done right. But of course, a savvy real estate business person could swing a deal where attorney fees are paid by seller, or buyer. And you know what? Your attorney doesn’t mind one bit who pays for the services.

Once the contracts are drawn, this is when you have to come back into the deal and play. You have to see if the seller will accept the terms of the contract. This isn’t going to be too difficult if you’ve done the right thing and made sure you understand the kind of deal your seller will accept. If the deal is acceptable, it’s time to see what kind of deals you can make on those repairs.

You know contractors. They are on your team. You give them a call and they cut you a deal because you always use their services. The work is cost effective because you give them more business than most people, and the work is better too because they always want you to return for more.

That’s a power team. The better team you have, the more success you will achieve. The faster things move, the smoother deals go. And now, you can relax and set your own schedule because you don’t need to get up early, go to bed late and work all day long just to make a fortune. You have all the help you need to get things done right. So, flip open your contact booklet and get started on building your team. Life will be so much easier the less work you have to do for yourself.

Cheers,

Brad Wozny

Is your Website Hackable? Why you Need to Worry

November 1st, 2008
csi
Kevin James Vella asked:

Apocalypse Now

Just because you think your data is safe does not mean your database of sensitive organization information has not already been cloned and is resident elsewhere ready to be sold to the highest bidder. To make matters worse, only recently, it has been discovered that hackers are not simply selling your; they’re also selling the fact that you have vulnerabilities to others be they hackers, industrial spies or terrorists.

It all sounds apocalyptic, doesn’t it? Well, rather than being an angel of doom, I’ll let the stats speak for themselves.

TJX Companies Inc.,

TJX Companies, owners of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Winners, HomeGoods, A.J. Wright, and Bob’s stores, on the 17th January this year, disclosed that 40 million of their customers’ credit and debit card details were stolen. In parallel, federal credit union SEFCU published a similar warning that the personal details of 10,000 of its customers were compromised in the hack attack.

Another 60 banks including Citizen Union Savings Bank and Bank of America seem to have customers whose credit and debit cards have been breached in this attack.

Ben Cammarata, Chairman and Acting Chief Executive Officer of TJX Companies, stated that the nature of the hack is not known and two computer security experts are at hand examining the problem. The warning issued by SEFCU sheds greater light and states “A fraudster may have gained access to … card information through one of those entities in the payment network, including the merchant.”

SC Magazine reports that hackers used data from the breach to purchase goods in a number of states in the US, in Hong Kong and in Sweden.

A digest of the latest developments follows:

* According to 3WCAX-TV Website, the attack is expected to cost consumers one-point-five (M) million dollars. This article was published before law suits started sprouting.

* Brian Fraga, Standard-Times, reports that a class action lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court (Boston) against TJX. The amount of damages sought is undisclosed. According to SC Magazine, yesterday a West Virginia resident slapped another lawsuit and is suing TJX for $5 million.

* U.S. Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, has called for the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the hacking, according to a eport today in the Boston Globe.

* Today, the Government of Canada, stated that it is launching an investigation into TJX and the data breach.

* Of note is that the hacking may have started in May 2006 and the breach was discovered only in December 2006 (and publicized in January 2007).

Universities

University systems are usually highly decentralized which makes it hard to ensure tight security. To the extent that one department may have deployed a hardened security infrastructure while others loll in lax measures making the whole system weak.

The following are some of the recent university hacks due to web application vulnerabilities:

* Last month, a hacker infiltrated a massive database from the University of California, Los Angeles, containing personal information (including social security numbers, dates of birth, home addresses and contact information) on 800,000 people in one of the worst computer breaches ever at a US university.

* In January 2007, the University of Arizona reported a breach happening November and December last year that effected several services according to the Privacy Clearing House. The number of effected records is as yet undisclosed.

* In December 2006, University of Colorado – Boulder experienced a hack attack that resulted in the theft of thousands of names and social security numbers – a total of 17,500 records were compromised.

* University of Texas, Dallas, reported in December 2006 that the data of 35,000 individuals (current students and alumni) was compromised. Social security numbers were exposed, according to the Privacy Clearing House.

Changing Trends in What Motivates Hackers

According to Zone-H, the top 50 attackers defaced a total of approximately 2.5 million websites all over the globe. According to the CSI/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey 2005, one of the most dramatic findings was the exponential increase in website defacement experienced by their respondents: in 2004, 5% of the respondents experienced defacement while in 2005 that figure went up to 95%. Recent trends over the past 12 months show that there is a shift from such disruptive vandalism that gains notoriety towards theft of data that translates into profit. The report on 2006 is still to be published.

Statistics

Since many organizations do not monitor online activity at the web application level, hackers have free reign and even with the tiniest of loop holes in a company’s web application code, any experienced hacker can break in using only a web browser and a dose of creativity and determination. It seems that most hack attacks are discovered months after the initial breach simply because attackers do not want and will not leave an audit trial. In web application attacks physical evidence (e.g., a missing database) is inexistent – hackers are interested in stealing the data and leaving it intact.

Recent research by a leading research firm shows that 75% of cyber attacks are done at web application level. As yet unpublished research at Acunetix seems to corroborate this finding. Competing web application security organizations record similar data.

The Privacy Clearing House reports more interesting findings including the fact that over 100 million records have been compromised since February 2005. However this figure excludes the TJX episode of around 40 million records. Out of a total of around 140 million approximately 80 million were due to hacking attacks. Having said this it is not known whether the TJX episode was a network or a web application breach.

The Cost of Being Hacked

The costs of hack attacks to any organization are extensive with possible financial burdens that may result in closure:

* Loss of customer confidence, trust and reputation with the consequent harm to brand equity and consequent effects on revenue and profitability;

* Possible loss of the ability to accept certain payment instruments e.g. VISA, Mastercard

* Negative impact on revenues and profits arising from any falsified transactions and from employee downtime;

* Website downtime which is in effect the closure of one of the most important sales channels for an e-business;

* The expenditure involved in repairing the damage done and building contingency plans for securing compromised websites and web applications; and,

* Legal battles and related implications from Web application attacks and lax security measures including fines and damages to be paid to victims.

The figure above shows the total losses as reported by the 2005 CSI/FBI Annual Computer Crime and Security Survey.

The total losses per category of breach (valid only for the US) is reported to be over $130 m for the 639 respondents willing and able to estimate their losses. The Survey authors also state that while explicit costs (such as costs of reinstalling software and reconfiguring computer systems) is more accurately accounted for by respondents, implicit costs (such as lost future sales due to negative media coverage following a breach) is more difficult to account for and are largely not represented in the loss numbers reported here.

Now does it sound apocalyptic? I believe there is serious need for all to worry.

Csi: Spoiler for Tonight’s Episode

October 5th, 2008

Groshan Fabiola asked:

What else could be a refreshing break from all the hard-core crime solving drama than a little bit of romance? CSI fans have come to love (and ****?) the love-thing going on between the two major characters on the show, Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) and tonight’s episode, which is tagged by CBS as “the moment GSR [Grissom Sara Romance] fans have been waiting for,” will finally shed some light on the fate of the star-crossed lovers.

Over the seasons of CSI, fans have become drawn to the chemistry of Gil and Sara, but there are some who believe that the show is deviating from what it’s all about, which is the mysteries and crime solving drama, not romance.

Tonight’s episode entitled “The Case of the Cross-Dressing Carp” features Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle’s (Jorja Fox) relationship encountering a crossroad which might change their lives forever, as Gil pops the question, or in this case, the statement: “Maybe we should get married.”

Will Sara say “yes?” Many speculate the opposite as FOX had already confirmed (around a hundred times) that she will be leaving the CSI for good after her long seven-year stint. However, it is still a mystery on how their love story will come to an end, especially given the fact that writers say it was “smartly done.”

CBS has already released a promotional clip, completely suggesting that tonight’s episode will have Sara and Gil at the center of all things. Nonetheless, CSI will still be following the team as they ***** the case involving the death of a young man whose body looks like a female.

Directed by Alec Smight, “The Case of the Cross-Dressing Carp” features Ronnie Lake (Jessica Lucas), Lynn Towne (Gail O’Grady), David Phillips (David Berman), and Archie Johnson (Archie Kao) among the list of guest stars.

Catch CSI tonight at 9pm ET/PT on CBS. For the promo of tonight’s episode, follow the link below.
