William Petersen stated that he was leaving CSI because he wanted to do other things. Has anybody heard what he might end up working on? Movies? Plays? I would much appreciate any info as I am a huge fan!

CSI (Season 4) DVD Review

Britt Gillette asked:

Ripped from the imagination of writer Anthony Zuiker, CSI follows the life of Gil Grissom (William Petersen), a quirky and oftentimes obsessive workaholic who heads up the nightshift unit of the Las Vegas Police Department’s Crime Scene Investigation department. Nominated for 6 Golden Globes and 20 Emmys, the series has been either #1 or the #2 Nielsen rated show since the start of its second season in Fall of 2001. With an unorthodox approach the TV police drama (emphasis is placed on lab work rather than actual “street” police work), CSI was a novel concept when it first premiered. With transient characters from every walk of life, the exotic Las Vegas setting, and a steady level of crime, CSI has all the necessary elements required for a blockbuster TV show…

The C.S.I. (Season 4) DVD features a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere “Assume Nothing” in which the CSI team investigates a series of murders involving couples. When one couple meets another in a bar, and the second couple turns up dead, the police suspect a tandem of serial killers are on the loose… Other notable episodes from Season 4 include “Jackpot” in which a severed head is mailed to the CSI coroner, Dr. Robbins, from Jackpot, Nevada, and “Early Rollout” in which the CSI team investigates the execution-style murder of a **** star and her husband while the CSI also suffers from some internal difficulties…

Csi: Las Vegas Grissom Departs

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Actor William Petersen, who portrays Gil Grissom on the popular television series, CSI: Las Vegas, is set to make his departure from the show.

Now, before all you fans out there start to panic and begin making speculations, Petersen’s exit will not mark the end of Grissom, as the departure is only temporary and will be written as one of Grissom’s well-deserved and highly necessary vacation leaves.

Although many may think that a lot will be lost without one of the show’s central character, it may prove well for Petersen’s acting career. Sure, he has reached unbelievable levels of popularity with CSI: Las Vegas, but wouldn’t you want to see him branch out a little bit?

While Grissom takes some time off from visiting gruesome crime scenes and the dark and depressing crime labs in Las Vegas, Petersen has set his sights on performing on stage. Having been primarily trained as a Shakespearean actor and a former member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company, it makes sense as to why Petersen does not boast of a long list of television and film credits.

Come to think of it, Petersen didn’t have much of a small screen career prior to his role on CSI: Las Vegas. He has made some notable film appearances, including Manhunter, Fear, Skulls and The Contender, but nothing has really quite measured up to the success brought about by his portrayal of Grissom.

Still, it is quite comforting to know that Petersen is secure enough to explore other ventures. Perhaps having turned down parts in big screen hits like Oliver Stone’s Platoon and the mob drama Goodfellas, taught Petersen that taking risks could sometimes be worthwhile. Besides, with already six seasons of CSI: Las Vegas under his belt, it’s going to take a lot more than just a brief absence to erase Petersen from the minds and hearts of true CSI fans.

It’s Official: CSI Loses Jorja Fox

Groshan Fabiola asked:

CSI fans must be disappointed to hear that one of the best detectives of Las Vegas Police Department Crime Scene Investigations Bureau will be leaving for good. This week, it was officially announced that Jorja Fox will be leaving CSI. Her character, Sara Sidle, had been in a relationship with Gil Grissom (William Petersen) for the last couple of seasons and the two were hinted to be headed for marriage soon. However, Fox commented in an interview that Sara and Gil won’t be coming to a full resolution, as she will be leaving the show.

“There are all these things I want to do. Some are personal. Some are professional,” Jorja Fox said about leaving the show. “And I really need to do some of them before I get too old.”

Previously, she had issues with the show, which led to her being temporarily fired when contract negotiations broke down in 2004.

Upon hearing the news, fans had immediately gathered and pitched in their efforts to keep Jorja Fox on their favorite show. Fan websites have been up and running, petitions have been signed and letters and balloons were sent to the CSI executives. However, all these efforts were in vain as Sara Sidle is officially out of the CSI picture.

Some readers do appreciate these efforts, though, as one said, “This is so cool that all of this support has come out for her. I have always loves her on CSI.”

On the other hand, some believe that the show must go on without her. “I really liked the character of Sara the first couple of seasons, but, I don’t know, she lost me after that. But the show needs a shake up, maybe this will do it.”

Fox will still be appearing on CSI until November, but the ending they want for Sara and Gil might be a faraway dream.

“This might sound vain, but the story of Sara and Grissom is a little like a fable, and most great fables don’t really have 100 percent resolution,” Fox said of the fate of the two lovers.
